Magnetrons 2J55 and 9M31: same power, different designations
The X-band, 50 kW magnetron application lacks the most important thing – the exact type of part. The 2J55 and 9M31 have the same peak power as the manufacturer, but different frequency ranges. Before ordering, you need to link the designation of the removed product with the documentation of a specific transmitting node.

What is the comparison of the manufacturer
Current Nisshinbo Micro Devices cards for 2J55 give the range 9345-9405 MHz, for 9M31 - 9380-9440 MHz. For both models, a peak output power of 50 kW is indicated. The general range does not confirm the interchangeability of specific products in your equipment.
These values help verify the completeness of the quotation, but are not instructions for setting up the transmitter. A record of 9.4 GHz or one extreme from the table is too rough to agree on a replacement. The specification retains the full designation and reference to the requirement of the radar manufacturer.
What data is needed from the service organization
Ask for the full radar model, transmission or antenna configuration, the designation of the installed magnetron and the position number from the spare parts list. A photo of the readable marking is useful along with the document: separately similar appearance does not determine the desired type.
If the old invoice costs 2J55, and the new application has 9M31, this discrepancy must be resolved before placing the order. Do not correct one line according to assumption. The service organization should specify what detail is required and on what basis the change is agreed.
Two positions in quotation
When you need an installed model, specify it in a separate line with the number and requirements for documents. If another type is considered, arrange it as a separate option, requiring confirmation of applicability. One line, “2J55/9M31 or analogue,” loses the distinction between the original query and the proposed replacement.
The condition, completeness, marking and delivery conditions are agreed for a particular product. Delivery of parts and service work can have different terms and cost. Specify the city of receipt and the desired date of equipment transfer for repair, so that logistics is part of the quotation being checked.
Verification upon receipt
Check the actual marking with the agreed specification, and the package and set of documents with the terms of the order. Save the delivery number along with the equipment documentation. If another type is received, the issue is resolved before the transfer of the product to the installation.
Diagnosis of the causes of the deterioration of the radar, installation and control after repair is performed by the service organization. A new magnetron should not be ordered as a guaranteed solution to any loss of range: first you need a confirmed repair item. We will help to issue a request for a specific type and agree on the terms of its delivery.
Questions before ordering
Can you choose only 50 kW power?
Nope. These two models have the same specified peak power, but different frequency ranges. To order, you need an accurate designation and confirmation of applicability to a particular node.
What to write if the label is not readable?
Give the model and configuration of the equipment, available documentation and previous records of the delivery of the service organization. Don’t replace the missing index with an assumption from a photograph of similar detail.
